When we have an issue with a system, employee, or a big purchase, Matt is the person I depend on to keep me calm and help guide our business decisions. When we first hired him we had total sales of $1.5M, and after two and a half years we reached $7M in sales and still growing.

Where are you going to be in 5 years?

Have your started planning? I had a client tell me recently “I don’t ever see myself retiring.” So my next question was what kind of work do you want to be doing in five years? He quickly told me he wanted to be able to keep pulse on his business finances, help...

Making Time

“I need to reschedule - my son’s lacrosse games start at 4:30pm”  Was I hearing him correctly? I had been meeting with Lane and his co-owner Matt on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 4:00pm for more than two years, and now we had to find a different...

Work Yourself Out of a Job

I had the pleasure to talk with Chad Lingafelt on the LocDoc Security, Coffee Break Podcast a couple weeks back. I was happy to share some advice for small business owners, and help provide some clarity for owners everywhere. We had a great conversation about small...

Are you hiring the right people?

How do you know? Everywhere you look right now, there are stories about businesses struggling to hire new staff. And “I can’t find the right people,” is one of the most common complaints I hear as a business coach. Most small business owners that end up in coaching...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Business Coaching?

Business Coaching is about helping the owner develop so that the business can develop. We help business owners create better systems, implement effective strategies, and grow the business toward their long-term vision.

It’s not consulting – I don’t have any silver bullet solutions to sell you. But as your coach I’m here to be a guide, a mentor, an accountability partner, and a mirror for you during challenging times.

The EMyth Approach tells us that the business is a reflection of the owner – so in order for the business to change, the owner is going to have to change too. And that is the work that I love to do.

How do I know if it’s right for me?

The process to build a better business isn’t just about systems or tools, it requires real growth and commitment to change from the owner. If you’re not ready to put in some hard work and make changes internally and in your business, then it’s probably not going to work.

But if you’re ready to do things differently, ready to take action and implement changes, and you want to stop spinning your wheels with every new idea that comes your way, coaching might be the right fit for you.

Why do I need a coach?

Every high performer has a coach. From athletes to CEOs, top performers have people around them who push them to be better, who help them improve their performance, and show them how to implement new strategies to find success.

I’m a firm believer that everyone needs a coach in some area of their life, and that is especially true for small business owners.

What kinds of businesses do you work with?

I’ve worked with all sorts of businesses in my time as an EMyth-Certified Business Coach, from kosher butchers to small package manufacturers, from custom home remodelers to SaaS companies, from start-ups to businesses with 20+ years of experience. Every business and every business owner will benefit from having a coach.

That being said, my sweet spot is small to medium sized businesses in a growth phase of their business. When you and your business are ready to reach the next stage of your development, it’s the perfect time to work with a coach.

How does the process work?

Every coaching relationship starts with an introduction and an initial coaching session. We will take time to assess the current state of your business and examine any pain points that you’re dealing with right now. From there we’ll determine which service  is the best fit for your needs and we’ll get started right away digging into the issues that are showing up in your business.

I lead business owners the same way I coach athletes; we set aggressive goals, apply the appropriate processes, and hold them accountable to doing the work required. I’ve never been accused of not being direct enough – I give blunt feedback and help business owners build their ideal business through this coaching process.

I want to sell my business, can you help?

Yes! The process of selling your business can be overwhelming, as well as one of the most exciting things you’ll experience as a business owner. That said, the process is far from straightforward, and many owners find themselves getting much less than they expected, if they’re able to sell at all. So starting early and preparing your business to sell when you’re ready is a great idea.

We can ensure the business systems function the way they’re supposed to, you can choose when and where you want to be involved in how the business runs, and you can set things up to succeed whether you’re there or not. Maximizing the value of your is a multi-faceted process, and I love to help set people up for success. And, my affiliation with Main Ascent means I can help support you every step of the way.
